Public Engagement

At Topology, we pride ourselves on public engagement. While public engagement is sometimes approached as checking off a box in response to statutory requirements, Topology knows that it is crucial to a successful project, whether it is to better understand a constituency, to engage the public as local experts to inform project processes and policy, or to create public buy-in more broadly. In this framework, it is important to “meet them where they’re at” to increase the quantity and quality of engagement. This includes providing a variety of online and in-person engagement formats that are conscious of language and scheduling needs of participants, while also ensuring that the structure and timing of outreach programming reflect the needs of the project scope to achieve optimal outcomes.

Topology has employed a wide array of public engagement regimes, including:

·       In-person, online, and hybrid surveys

·       Community Workshops

·       Public presentations

·       Design charettes

·       In-Person and virtual town hall events

·       Engagement tables at public venue and events

·       Door-to-door canvassing

·       Youth engagement

·       Live AI-generated visioning

Topology has most recently seen success deploying this strategy in preparation of Open Space & Recreation Master Plan Elements in Millburn and Cranford, production of a public community visioning charrette for redevelopment of the Livingston Mall, and development Urban Enterprise Zone 5-Year Development Plans across New Jersey.
